MAYKO HAIR IS GOING GREEN

No, it’s not our hair that is turning green, it’s our salon.

Mayko Hair is proud to announce our partnership with Sustainable Salons, a social enterprise that rescues up to 95% of salon waste from landfill and finds repurposing solutions that benefit our planet, all while supporting the community.

Why are we doing it?

More and more of our clients have been asking us about our waste management practices and have shared their concerns about reducing their environmental footprint, including when visiting our salon.

We’ve heard your concerns and we’ve acted.

As of 3 July, Mayko Hair will become a sustainable salon.

What does this mean?

Recycling bins will separate paper, plastics, hair, foils, metal and chemicals for collection and repurposing by Sustainable Salons.

On top of reducing our waste, we are also supporting communities. As a social enterprise, Sustainable Salons donates proceeds from the recycling process to OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.

Which means our waste is helping to feed those in need.

How is our waste recycled?

Some of the ways Sustainable Salons uses our salon waste includes:

Hair waste soaks up oil spills:
All the hair swept up in our salon is collected and put into a filter stocking which is called a hair boom. These are used all around the world to soak up thousands of litres of oil.

Paper and cardboard recycled into new products:
Paper can be recycled and repurposed multiple times. It is important to keep it in circulation and we will be recycling all magazines, paper, packaging and cardboard.

Metal buys meals for the community:
Our foil and colour tubes are collected and recycled into new aluminium products. Proceeds from the sale of metal is used to donate meals to those in need through OzHarvest.

Plastic used to build park benches:
Both hard and soft plastics are collected and kept out of land fill. They are recycled to build park benches and even prescription glasses frames.

Chemicals are recycled into clean water:
Our excess chemical waste is collected and neutralised into recycled water which can be used for construction, community parks or manufacturing and keeps it out of our water ways.

What does this mean for your appointment?

We are proud to be taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment and to offer our clients the opportunity to be part of the solution, not the problem. In return, we will be adding a small ‘green fee’ of $3 to every appointment.

Thank you to all our clients for helping us, help the environment.
